Robert Ham is a 4-time EMMY Award-winning director/writer, a decorated Army Combat Veteran and an alumnus of the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts.    

A Los Angeles native, Robert has been telling stories and making films since high school. He went to college at Master’s University to study media communications, earning a B.A. in electronic media in 2005.    

Motivated in part because of the 911 terrorist attacks, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2007. By a stroke of fate, he was assigned to be a Combat videographer/documentarian.   He served a combat tour to Afghanistan in 2009-2010 and then would deploy to over a dozen various areas in the Pacific (India, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand). 

Robert received the Department of Defense Military Videographer of the Year award three times; the highest decoration for military storytelling, and the most awarded to any one person in Army history.  Robert completed active duty in 2014 and stayed in the Army Reserve through 2017. 

After receiving his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film and Television at USC Cinematic Arts, he co-founded HAMMR Productions, a certified service-disabled, veteran-owned production company, with is first wife Melanie, who was a Youtuber/influencer sensation before passing away in January 2022.  As a tribute, he  produced his first feature documentary, Made With Melanie, to share an intimate portrayal of Melanie, as a popular YouTuber while she battled cancer. The film has now been watched for more than 500k hours with over 1.2 million views on Melanie’s Legacy Youtube Page. 

Fast-forward to today, Robert has released his second feature documentary Interpreters Wanted, which follows the plight of two Afghan Interpreters who bravely served alongside U.S. Forces in Afghanistan – as they struggle to earn their promised freedom and their 14-year fight to come to the United States.  This eye-opening, powerful film has already received critical acclaim, including a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, winning top prize at the G.I. Film Festival San Diego and Best Documentary at the Arizona International Film Festival. 

Robert is working on a number of other important military stories, including Searching For Bergdahl, which provides 360 degree perspective of the high-profile release of former United States Army soldier who was held captive from by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He is also finishing Zzaslow K-427, a feature documentary which honors the remarkable service of the most decorative bomb-sniffing dog to ever serve in the U.S. Army, and how this unassuming black Labrador retriever saved lives, both on and off the battlefield, healing humans in extraordinary ways that are completely unexpected, coming soon.  

The filmmaker has worked with a variety of entertainment companies, including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Fox, Film 44/45, We Are The Mighty, Monster Energy, and with talent, including Tom Hanks, Michelle Monaghan, Joe Mantegna, Toni Trucks and Max Martini .

Robert has been awarded four EMMYs and has been nominated for six more. He is Pat Tillman Foundation Scholar, which honors the leadership of remarkable military service members and veterans.   

Robert lives in Los Angeles with his wife Brooke, their four children, 10 chickens and dog Liberty.
